This annual flower is easily grown from seed. Sow seeds directly in the garden in April or May when the sun is shining and the temperature is 60 degrees. Keep plants free of weeds and thin to about 9 to 10 inches apart.
It is a hardy plant and can survive frosts and even early snows. They are pale yellow to deep orange ray flowers. When the plant is bruised it gives off a distinctive odor. Add color to fresh and dried arrangements. Can be used as a dye. Added to salves to heal skin burns, etc. Their Latin name is Calendula officinalis.
