Cedar Lane Farm

Cedar Lane Farm is a small vegetable operation located in Cummings, KS a short drive southwest of Atchison on Hwy 59. Carrie Kesse manages Cedar Lane. She ventured off to Massachusetts in 2005 after graduating with a degree in Horticulture from Kansas State University. There she apprenticed at Red Fire Farm, a large scale certified organic vegetable farm, in Granby, MA. Several years later she returned home to Kansas bringing organic farming knowledge and skills with her. The two acres currently under cultivation is part of her grandparents' 80 acre farm now owned by her parents. Carrie devoutly uses organic growing methods but is not certified. She markets her chemical free produce as "sustainably" grown. At Cedar Lane Carrie uses absolutely no synthetic pesticides, chemical fertilizers, or genetically engineered seed. She feels it is important to refrain from pesticide use for the sake of the environment, consumer health, worker safety, and our future. Cover crops, crop rotations, and compost play a large role in pest management and soil fertility at Cedar Lane Farm.
