One of my favorite tomatoes since I first tried these over 20 years ago. I am sure it will become one of your favorites also!
Cherokee Purple tomatoes are said to have been originally grown by the Cherokee Nation, pre-1890's.
These tomatoes are a beautiful deep red / purple color, with green shoulders. They are round, with very smooth skins. You may experience a small bit of cracking on the shoulders. A very good slicer. Cherokee Purple is a true old-timey tomato!
They have a great sweet flavor, and can weigh between 12-16 ounces. These are very prolific plants, providing loads of tasty fruit. Cherokee Purples are listed as an Ark of Taste food.
Start tomato seed indoors 6-8 weeks before your last frost date. Harden the tomatoes off for at least one week before transplanting outdoors.
Plant your baby tomato plants in full sun (receives at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day), in rich soil with good drainage. Tomatoes do not like wet feet!
