The Poway Farmers Market is a great place to be in the City in the Country! The market is every Saturday, rain or shine, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Old Poway Park. Located on Midland Road between Adrian Street and Edgemoor Street and Temple Sreet, the market is easy to find, and parking is plentiful. The City of Poway sponsors the market, and Outback Farms, with years of market management experience, operates the market.
Centrally located in San Diego County in the City of Poway's historic Old Poway area, the market is certified by the county's agricultural commissioner. That means every product you see at the Old Poway Farmers Market is grown by the farmer vendor and sold fresh right to the consumer. Growers of organic produce must certify that they use no pesticides, herbicides, or chemical fertilizers.
Nearly all the approximately 35 farmers participating in the Old Poway Farmers Market grow their produce right here in San Diego County. Each is certified as the actual producer, which guarantees you always get delicious California grown produce. In cooperation with the San Diego County Agricultural Commissioner, inspectors visit the Old Poway Farmers Market and inspect both the grower's products and certifications. This not only helps maintain quality, but also guarantees the continued participation of only California farmers.
When you shop for your farm-fresh goods at the Old Poway Farmers Market, take some time to talk to the growers. They'll enjoy telling you about their operation, and you'll soon notice they take pride in discussing their produce. The farmers are also eager to provide recipes and tips on food preparation.
Many items at the Old Poway Farmers Market are priced 15 to 20 percent lower than produce offered in supermarkets. That's because certified farmers markets exempt growers from standard labeling and packaging procedures. In addition, because products are grown and sold directly to consumers from within California cutting out the middleman, transportation costs are lower and other costs are eliminated. Farmers can then often pass on their savings to customers with lower prices.
