We grow and sell a variety of garden seedlings, which you can find at the Planet Natural Garden Supply store, in Bozeman, or via the Market Day Foods Online Market, starting in April. We grow seedlings of greens, lettuces, tomatoes, basil, peppers, perennial herbs, and more...
We grow top notch wheatgrass for the Flying C juice bar at the Community Food Co-op, and The Good Food Store in Billings, as well as for custom orders. Our produce can also be found on the menu at the Wilsall Bar and Cafe.
We currently grow a mix of vegetables, fruits and native plants on 2.5 acres. We farm using unheated hoop-houses and other season extension techniques to produce crops nearly year round, following the methods pioneered by Eliot Coleman.
We are using Permaculture design techniques to restore soils on our 20 acres of over-grazed and drought-prone rangeland. Some of the projects we are working on include water-catchment using earthworks, the establishment of native fruiting shrubs in windbreaks, and the incorporation of a rotational grazing system involving chickens, ducks, heritage turkeys, Nigerian Dwarf goats, Berkshire pigs straw, and their manure to build soils in silvo-pastoral alley/swale/berm installations we have planted into food forests comprised of hardy fruits like apples, pears and plums, berries, and many other useful perennial plants. We are introducing legumes back onto the prairie clay, with excellent results, and look forward to increased fertility and a wide variety of yields!
During the winter months, we produce a catalog of hardy bare root nursery stock. Our offerings for 2013 include 62 different Zone 3 & 4 hardy fruit trees, berry plants, garden roots, and native shrubs and trees. We accept pre-orders beginning in early January, through April 15, and distribute the plants in Bozeman at the Market Day Foods warehouse over Earth Day weekend, April 20 and 21, 2013. Email us and we will send you our catalog! Our goal is to encourage people to practice permaculture and plant edible landscapes that produce food or medicine for people and are attractive to beneficial insect, pollinator and bird species as well. We also provide nursery stock in bulk for farmers and ranchers. Complementary to this venture, we have designed a custom biodiverse herbal perennial pasture seed mix that we are planting on the farm and selling to the public...Synergy West is designed for the cold dry Mountain West, and contains 17 useful plant species. This mix is great for grazing animals, orchard understories, soil building, and more!
