CSA: Garden to Go CSA
Garden to Go CSA is run by Alexandra Reau a sophomore honor student at Summerfield High School. She started Garden to Go in 2009 when she wrote a business plan and entered it in the Prima Civitas Foundation Youth Inventor's Day Competition where she received first place and a cash prize for start-up of her business. Now in the fifth year, Alexandra is further refining her business offering premium produce and personal service.
Alexandra was featured in the July 18, 2010 issue of the New York Times Sunday Magazine with a story about Garden to Go. Visit http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/18/magazine/18food-t.html to read the story. There was also a story on her as an inspiring entrepreneur in the April 2011 issue of Girls' Life Magazine. Recently, she was featured in the Spring 2012 issue of Country Gardens Magazine.
Members receive produce that is freshly picked often within minutes of the appointed arrival time. There are flexible pick-up days and times that make this a highly personalized service. Members will also enjoy the weekly recipes that feature the fresh produce and herbs.
Alexandra learned her gardening skills through 4-H and was one of the founding members of the Monroe County Youth Farm Stand Project and has marketed produce at the Green Growers Market. In 2010 she received the Michigan 4-H State Award for horticulture and crops.
Garden to Go is not Alexandra's first business. She has been raising rabbits since she was eight and runs a 110 cage rabbitry. Members may visit the rabbitry when they pick up produce. Visitors always enjoy seeing the little hoppers.
