The historic Davis Family Farm is located along the shores of Little Narragansett Bay in southeastern Connecticut. Governor Winthrop, representing the crown, deeded the land to Thomas Stanton, who promptly began farming in the year 1654 --and they haven't missed a crop since. From the early days, the seed was traded with local native American tribes and the seed that is currently being planted is genetically the same as seed planted by our native ancestors 1000 years ago. Because of the peculiarities of soil and climate and close promixity to Little Narragansett Bay, the corn meal ground from this seed is beyond comparison. Stone ground by water power in nearby Exeter, RI, none of the nutrients, goodness and flavor are lost in this traditional, grinding method. The fine quality of our corn meal whether cooked into jonny cakes, cornbread or muffins, showcases this traditional, New England staple.
Our farm stand will carry our stone ground cornmeal along with fresh picked vegetables when in season.
