Former "Miss America" KELLYE CASH

KELLYE CASH, FORMERLY OF MEMPHIS, IS THE NIECE OF THE LATE COUNTRY MUSIC LEGEND JOHNNY CASH. SHE PROPELLED FROM HER REIGN AS "MISS TENNESSEE" IN 1986 TO CAPTURE THE COVETED TITLE AND CROWN OF "MISS AMERICA" IN 1987.

FOLLOWING HER YEARS AS "MISS AMERICA", DURING WHICH SHE PARTICIPATED IN NUMEROUS CIVIC AND RELIGIOUS PROGRAMS, MS. CASH RETURNED TO COLLEGE AND LAUNCHED HER CAREER AS A CHRISTIAN MUSIC ARTIST AND SPEAKER.

Former Major League Baseball player and coach, Phil Roof will sign autographs during the Pecan Festival Saturday, September 13th.

Duke will also make a special appearance in the Fulton County School system Friday, September 12th for an assembly program.

THE CAREFREE HIGHWAY BAND

Western Kentucky Bluegrass band with over 85 years of professional experience.

The band will headline the opening night "Bluegrass on the Bluff", Monday, September 8th at Red Coffey Park in Hickman.

U.S. Special Forces Member John Peters will discuss his book "On The Ground" and his work with the top secret "studies and observation group" in Laos, Cambodia and North Vietnam.

Peters, from Dresden, Tn. will speak of the early involvement in Vietnam and his mission in 1968 and 1969.

Peters will describe the days and missions that were kept government classified for over 20 years!

He will appear Thursday morning at 10:00 at the Hickman Public Library.

Copies of his book will be for sale.

Get out your tables, clean out the closets and garage, and set up a yard sale at your house or business. Many customers will travel the streets of Hickman looking for the bargain of a lifetime!

Yard sales start at 7:00.

"Pecan Fest Ladies Luncheon and Fashion Show"

Ladies, come enjoy a wonderful lunch served by Hub’s, while enjoying fellowship with friends and fashions from local businesses. Models from Suedell’s, of Union City, and The Leader Store, of Fulton, will show off the latest fashions and styles during the afternoon of Pecan Festival fun. Advanced tickets must be purchased for the event at the Citizens Bank, Hickman City Hall, Denise Grissom or Jill Coffey. Tickets are $12 each.

"Pecan Festival Prayer on the Bluff"

Come to the pavilion on the scenic Hickman bluff for a community prayer for our city, schools, festival and military.

"Pecan Festival Photography Contest Judging"

Judges will review all entries in the photography contest at the Hickman Public Library. Winners will be announced and photos will be on display all week for public viewing.

"County Fair Style Pecan Dessert Bake-Off"

For all of the wonderful dessert specialists we have in Hickman! Bakers may participate in any, or all, of the bake-off categories: (1) pecan pie (2) pecan brownies (3) pecan fudge (4) pecan specialty. Turn items in to HRTCC members at the community room of the Citizens Bank, in a non-returnable container. All entries must be pre-cut for sampling by our judges. All remaining desserts will be served at tonight's kick-off at the Hickman bluff. Best of show awards will be announced tonight.

"Pecan Festival Kickoff Parade followed by Bluegrass on the Bluff"

The Pecan Festival will kickoff with a parade of classic cars, 4-wheelers, motorcycles, tractors, and emergency vehicles from Jeff Green Memorial Park . The parade will conclude at the Hickman Bluff, on Moscow Avenue. Festival goers will then be treated to an evening of foot stomping, hand-clapping bluegrass music brought to you by "The Carefree Highway Band." HRTCC members will prepare box lunches, so leave the cooking to us tonight. To get the feel of "Old Fashioned Days" we’re asking everyone to come in your old bib overall’s, straw hats, old period dresses, anything to remember "day’s gone by." Activities include our "Best Decorated Bicycle" contest, "Best Decorated 4-Wheeler" contest and "Best Old Fashioned Dressed Man, Woman and Couple." We will also announce the winners of the day’s bake-off competition and announce the winners of the photography contest. Bring you lawn chairs and come out for a night of food, fellowship and great music as we start the week of our 15th annual Pecan Festival.

"A Salute to our Soldiers and Veterans"

Come share a moment as we pay respects to all who have served our country, and to all who serve today. Service will include Hickman American Legion Post 57 and a guest speaker.

All veterans and their families are encouraged to attend.

"Climbing Your Family Tree"

Come to the Hickman Public Library to this free lecture and demonstration on how to start and expand your search for your family ancestors. The session will be instructed by Phyllis Simmons, retired University of Kentucky cooperative extension agent for family and consumer sciences. Be sure to bring your notebook and pencil and get ready to start an exciting journey to your past.

"Davy Crockett and the Hickman to Jackson Stage Route"

Joe Bone, manager of the Davy Crockett Cabin/Museum in Rutherford, Tennessee, will talk about Davy Crockett in Northwest Tennessee and his work with Crockett’s last home in Rutherford.

Bone will entertain with music by harmonica and guitar as part of the program.

Make plans to welcome Mr. Bone to Hickman. This will be a very interesting lesson in local history and the life of a true American legend!

"Hickman Pecan Festival Community Prayer Service featuring former

" Miss America" Kellye Cash"

Former "Miss America" Kellye Cash will sing and give her testimony of service to the Lord. Special guest music, a special children's program and congregational singing will all be a part of this service. Following the service, refreshments will be served to all that attend, along with a meet and greet with Ms Cash. All churches, school groups and individuals are encouraged to be a part of this special night.

"Book Signing and Reading at the Hickman Public Library"

Bring the kids to the park for an afternoon of fun, games and competitions. Events include hay rides, the popular "egg drop," "bb gun shoot," and other activities. Treats will be provided to all the kids who come out.

"Fulton County Conservation District Trap Shoot"

Come out and shoot trap for prizes and fun. All who participate in this event will have their name eligible for a new shotgun that will be given away following the shoot. $2.00 per round will be charged to participate. Robert Duke will perform his "cowboy" roping tricks and skills for students at Fulton County Middle School during a special Pecan Festival assembly program. Duke will also spend the day Saturday at Jeff Green Memorial Park entertaining Festival goers!

It's time to begin preparing for the 2nd Annual Hickman Pecan Festival Photography Contest

Participants will be required to submit their photos to the Hickman Public Library on September 5th, 2008

Categories for this year's contest will include:

1.) Black and White 2.) Landscape 3.) People 4.) Flowers 5.) Animals

Judges will award ribbons for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each category.

Judges will also award the "Best of Show" and "Best of Show 17-Under" from all categories.

Entrants may turn in one photo in each category. Photos from last year's contest are not eligible for this year's show.

Photos will be on display during the Festival week for public viewing.

Entered photos must be 5x7, in a stand-up frame with entrant's name and phone number attached to the back.

This event is free and open to all ages.

Saturday September 6th Pecan Festival Opening Day

The 2nd Annual "River Rat 5k Run & Walk" will begin at the parking lot of Fulton County High School at 9:00.

The event will conclude at the Fulton County Courthouse on Moulton Street.

Trophies will be awarded in different categories to both runners and walkers.

River Rat t-shirts will be available at the event.

Entry fee: $10 - Runners $8 - Walkers

2nd Annual

PECAN FESTIVAL RIVERSIDE BBQ COOK-OFF

Saturday September 13th, 2008

This year's competition will crown a champion in the categories of "Best Ribs" and "Best Chicken".

Entry fee will be $40, which will include both categories and the "Best Sauce" competition.

Ribs and Chicken will be judged solely on taste.

A minimum prize money of $200 for 1st place, $100 for 2nd place, and $50 for 3rd place will be awarded in both the Ribs and Chicken categories.

"Best Sauce" of the competition will receive $50.

Teams may cook with wood, charcoal, or gas cookers and must begin cooking from the park's site.
