Eve's Orchard: Apples so good they're sinful.
We are a small farm that is family operated. We believe in being good stewards of the planet and the animals that live here. We grow organic apples and heirloom vegetables. We raise MN Hygienic honeybees, Old English Southdown sheep, heritage breed chickens, and the usual barn cats (spayed, of course). Our animals help complete the organic cycle of life. The animals can range in our orchard, which means they are fertilizing the trees with their droppings. They consume the dropped apples that contain apples "pests." This means the life cycle of the apple bug is stopped and it cannot overwinter in the soil and emerge the following Spring. They keep the orchard clean by keeping the grass mowed down, which also helps reduce the fungal spores of apple scab. The chickens can eat the infamous tent caterpillars that infest fruit trees (as well as other insects). The manure from the animals is also used in gardens. The gardens produce nectar and pollen for the honeybees. We will be provided with honey, beeswax, and free-range eggs. Thanks for supporting small farms!
Organic, unpasteurized, farm fresh APPLE CIDER. The cider is dark in color and has a sediment. Summer varieties are great served cold and have a light flavor. Autumn varieties have a full body, rich flavor and are tasty served warm with a cinnamon stick. $6/gallon
Heirloom PUMPKINS/winter squash. Organic eating squashes and decorative pumpkins, some gourds; range from mini pumpkins and acorn squash to 40 lb blue hubbards. Depends on how the season goes.
Heirloom TOMATOES/PLANTS. Lots of colors, shapes, flavors. Started in my greenhouse.
EGGS. Free-range chickens provide a colorful egg basket of blues, greens, pink, and browns. Free-range eggs have a remarkably different nutritional breakdown compared to conventional "factory farmed" hens. Animal Welfare Approved. Eggs are sold at the St. Peter Food Co-op.
SHEEP. Contact us if you are interested in buying sheep. We have registered Old English Southdown "Babydoll" sheep as well as Babydoll x Suffolk crosses. We do not sell our sheep as market sheep or "meat" sheep. They make excellent pets that keep your lawn/pasture mowed down! As a responsible breeder, it is my job to make sure all animals go to a good home.
HOURS: Please call or email to guarantee we are home and have what you want available. During season, we are usually open on SUNDAYS. Our eggs are sold at the St. Peter Food Co-op.
Check out our new facebook page, which will allow you to see pictures of our chickens and know where your eggs are coming from.
Honey and Honeybee products will be unavailable for the 2013 season.
