The Goji plant is a fast growing plant and begins bearing a few berries the second year, but it is the 4th year before they produce any quantity. Once established they are a very hardy plant. You need only prune them once a year to keep them producing well.
Our Seed is from the Himalayan Goji Berry (Lycium Barbarum) and are not form the Chinese Wolf Berry (Lycium Chinese) which has bitter, red berries. The Himalayan Goji has mildly sweet, red berries.
The goji seeds are very tiny, smaller than tomato seeds, but you should get at least a 75% germination. We get the best seed germination by using tweezers to plant one seed into each starting plug of the Bio-Dome seed starter we purchased from the Parks Seed Catalog, but other methods work well also. You should plant them one seed to a container as the tender goji plant does not handle transplanting very well if their tender roots are damaged. The goji seed germinates within a week in the Bio-Doams, but if other methods are used it sometimes takes longer.
When they are about 1-2 inches high we transplant them into 4 inch pots using a good potting soil. And then when they are about 1 ft. high we plant them in the garden, or if they are to be sold we transplant them into 1 gal. or 2 gal containers. Once germinated, the goji is very fast growing and is a very hardy plant once established. It will grow in almost any type of soil, except soggy wet soil.
Our first year, 1 ft. Goji Plants, with growing instructions are $20.00 each + postage and handling.
