Webster Farm Organic - Salad Days

(Foreston, Minnesota)

hen you become a member of Webster Farm Organics, you are invited to connect to the land, the season, the process, and the harvests of that year through Salad Days, our twenty week delivery of fresh produce.

We are also committed to fun, creativity, and enjoyment of the natural world, wonders we like to share. We hope from this experience that we all find the way to sustainable living. On Salad Days, you will encounter great variety and flavors in our freshly picked produce and lots of ideas for simple preparation. We grow heirloom vegetables, hundreds of varieties of them, to give moderate amounts each week of many selections, awakening your senses and pleasing your palate.

We have sized our weekly bags of produce for fresh eating more than cooking and storage. One to two adults can easily use an entire bag. We have a packing form that allows you to customize, to the extent the season allows, so you receive more of what you know you like but still get to try foods which are new or challenging to you. Seeing us each week you can let us know more about your household preferences. Of course, we also like to surprise and delight you.

Beginning May 20, we will pick, pack, and deliver your bag of produce to any of three Twin City locations, on Thursday evenings. We meet local members Friday evenings at the farm. Most members have a "regular" location, but you can meet us at any of them.

Because we use reusable cloth bags that are gentle on the produce and the planet, you simply trade an empty bag for a full one each week, pick up recipes and a newsletter that tells you more about your food and the farm this week, and have time for coversation. If we know in advance, you may use our late drop for when you cannot meet us. You also have the option to skip weeks you are away and make them up as soon as it works for both of us. It is easy to arrange.

We commit this year's harvests entirely to our members and to the food sufficiency of the farm household. We grow restaurant quality and diversity for you.

We also invite you to patricipate in the community life of the farm, to awaken the fields and wild creatures at Mayfest on May 16, to tour the farm midsummer on July 31, and to arrange your pickup on the farm any Friday evening between 5pm-7pm that works for you.

We will offer some hands on and outdoor experiences as well. Your farm visits are welcome, but not required. Some members have never been to the farm, and that's okay, too.

We will not deliver on the 4th of July holiday week, but offer farm pickup or a double bag before or after.

The fee for membership in 2010 is $425. We will accept members until the spaces are full, but it helps us to know who our members are as early as possible, even if you cannot pay in full at the time you sign up. We do require half payment to hold your place, and full payment by May 1 2009. New members who pay in full by January 31, 2010 will receive an extra (bonus) bag during the season.

Apart from our gardens, the balance of our land is a mix of woodland, meadows, creeks and wetland. We use the least invasive and disruptive practices, rainwater collection systems, passive solar, and habitat preservation so that we have natural balance fertility, pest and disease control. We have no farm animals and use no animal products in the fields. Our goal is long term health of the soil and environment while producing highly nutritious food for committed households.
