What is "pastured poultry" you might be wondering? It is chicken produced on pasture the way nature intended, where the birds have access to fresh air, sunshine and grass. They are moved daily in our portable "chicken hut" to a fresh spot of pasture where they will obtain about 10-20% of their diet from forage and insects. The balance of their diet is a custom mix of transitional chemical/gmo free corn & roasted soybeans blended with certified organic minerals and supplements (our chickens are not USDA certified organic however). Our chickens are sold as completely dressed whole birds averaging 4-6lbs. We can also have your chickens cut-up for you at the processor by request. These make an excellent roasting chicken, or you can throw them onto the grill for that upcoming weekend cookout! We are also happy to share our recipes with you, found in the "recipe box" on our website.
Our hogs are raised much the same way as our chickens. They get to live outdoors, root in the dirt, run and play, sleep beneath the shade of a tree and simply enjoy being a hog. We're convinced that happy hogs make for healthy, great tasting meat. We rotate the hogs on pasture using portable electric fencing and once they have foraged thru an area we move them again. Hogs actually graze very well and are true omnivores, collecting about 20% of their diet from the land itself. The balance of their diet is once again gmo free and/or certified organic grains mixed with certified organic minerals and supplements (our hogs are not USDA certified organic however). Hogs are also excellent tractors with a built in plow and require no gasoline, oil or expensive repairs, making them very sustainable and an integral mix to our farming operation. Our hogs are currently being used to clean up old, abandoned pasture areas that are overgrown with brush, briars and weeds. They will eat the grasses, dig for roots and tubers, till and remineralize the soil while they go. All of this work in conjunction with the fertilization the chickens provide is preparing the way for our grass-fed beef herd that we will start in 2009.
Just like the vegetables grown on our farm, these chickens and hogs are raised using only sustainable methods and environmentally friendly farming practices. No harmful synthetic chemical fertilizers, herbicides or pesticides are ever used on our pasture areas, nor do our animals receive any antibiotics. If you are looking for healthy, naturally raised, safe chicken and pork that has great flavor you have found the right source! And, you will know where it came from and what it has eaten so you can feel good about feeding it to your family.
To reserve your chickens, pork or beef simply e-mail us at the link provided or phone us at 765-349-4857. We do however have only a limited supply from each batch, so please do not wait too long to reserve your order.
Thank you for your patronage.
