Shades of Green Farm, located near Bastrop in the Austin area, began raising pastured meat chickens in early 2008. We began farming to produce food that meet our needs for healthy nutrition, our values for the humane treatment of animals and our goal to support sustainable agriculture. We believe it is possible to feed the people without killing the planet. Eat local! Healthy food comes from healthy land. We enhance the biology of the fields by composting, rotating pastures, growing the farm slowly, allowing the land to rest, and living small and gently in our home. While not yet certified organic, our fields have not received chemical treatment for years. Our chicken feed comes from Coyote Creek Organic Feed Mill in Elgin.
