In 1998 Crabtree Farms of Chattanooga Inc. was started by Will and McNair Bailey. The Farm property has been in agricultural use for about 200 years. In 1998 the 22 acre property was donated to the City of Chattanooga by the Crabtree/McGauley families with the coordination assistance of The Trust for Public Land. Crabtree Farms retains the agricultural heritage of the land and invites the public to visit and learn.

The Urban Farm at Crabtree Farms of Chattanooga is sustainably cultivated using organic growing methods. All produce purchased from the farm are chemical free and cared for by hand, from seed to harvest. Crabtree cultivates 4 acres and grows approximately 200 vegetable, herb, and flower crops. The products are sold to CSA participants, retail customers through on-farm sales, and rarely wholesale to local restaurants and florists.
