We harvest 11 acres of organic alfalfa & clover and after frost we grow herbs & winter hardy vegetables in our geodesic dome greenhouse.

All proceeds from our Local Harvest Mail Order kitty product sales go to help offset veterinary expenses for rescued stray & feral "special needs" cats here in Iowa and elsewhere. (Please visit our "Kitty Gallery" at http://www.catnipfarm.com to see some of the kitties we've helped.)

For 2 years we ran a full Community Supported Agriculture program & had 22 weekly member households in 1999. In the year 2000 we started our year-round Fresh Egg & Organic Produce "E-mail CSA" program which provides blue, green & brown eggs from our free-range laying hens & a variety of other farm products for weekly pick-up in Iowa City. There is no minimum order per week or month.

FYI - we never butcher our hens or roosters, as most organic farms do. They live out their natural lifespan here in comfort & safety, no matter their laying capacity.

We use no herbicides and no chemical insecticides or fertilizers. We were Certified Organic by OCIA in the spring of 2000, currently grow according to NOSB & federal organic standards, as always, but are not currently certified. Our growing techniques include raised & terraced bed & row planting, composting, crop rotation, companion and inter-planting, mulching & recycling. Some years we offer salad greens and other cool weather crops year-round in our solar geodesic dome greenhouse.

For 8 years we sold our produce and other goods at the Wednesday evening Iowa City Farmers' Market and to various grocery stores and restaurants in Iowa City. This is the 4th year we will NOT have a regular stall at the market - we've re-configured our farm business and now have our own retail location in Iowa City ~ the shop is at 110 Linn St., across from the public library and called FERAL! Curio Co. which is open to the public Mon. - Sat. from 12 to 6 pm. & sometimes later.

Catnip Farm's fresh and dried organic catnip, potted "kitty greens" & cat grass seed kits, catnip toys and cool handmade furniture for cats are all available at our gift shop in Iowa City as well. Proceeds from all of our our kitty product sales help offset veterinary costs for rescued stray, feral & special needs cats.
