Fennel Seed is the dried, ripe fruit, and Fennel Leaf is the dried leaf part of the perennial Foeniculum vulgare. Fennel Seed and Fennel Leaf are used in herbes de Provence, as well as to flavor fish, sausages, baked goods and liquors. Both Fennel Seed and Fennel Leaf have a sweet flavor with an aroma and taste that is licorice-like. Fennel Seed was believed by the Ancients to be very helpful with one's eyesight, and was also believed to increase strength. It was also once considered a symbol of great success. In more recent history, Fennel Seed has been chewed to freshened the breath. These days, Fennel Seed is widely used as an after-dinner breath freshener as well as to aid in digestion. A very weak Fennel Tea can be used for babies with colic. We use our Fennel Seed and Fennel Leaf when we often make our "Tummy Tea", and if nothing else, it is very tasty! Our Fennel is grown naturally, without chemical pesticides or herbicides and has been fertilized only with compost. Hand picked fresh and air-dried.
