Salix x 'Flame' Common name: Flame willow Description: medium shrub; 4 m (13'); bright, very colourful, red-orange annual growth (red form); yellow annual growth (yellow form); many branches Conditions: full sun to light shade; ample water to moist soil; tolerates a wide range of soil. Zone: 4

For the best showing of the bright new stems you can cut these back to almost ground level before they come out of dormancy in the spring. The new growth from that summer will be very colorful in the winter

Each cutting will have at least 4 viable buds on it. To plant them all you need to do is stick them in the ground or a pot. You can do this any time that the ground is not frozen. Make sure that the buds are pointing up and push them all the way in. If you push them in with the buds pointing down they will die. The top bud is all that should be sticking out of the dirt. Mulch them well and make sure they don't dry out. They will wake up and start growing when it is time, they will know when. You can keep them trimmed to shape as they grow.

These plants are dormant. If you get these cuttings and the ground is frozen or if you don't have time to plant now you can put them in a ziplock bag as soon as you receive them and put them in the freezer. When you are ready just take them out and stick them in a pot or the ground they will come out of dormancy when it is time. The roots and the leaves will grow at the same time when the temperature is right.

We are just now starting to add specialty products to our planting list. Local sales of this type of product kept it from being a feasible option until we found the local harvest storefront. At this time we have very few specialty products to offer. Our plans are to add as many as possible in the coming year.

We ship by flat rate priority mail as much as possible. Orders will be packaged and shipped on Mon. or Tue. each week.
