chickens and frostbite    (Posted Wed, Jan 23 '13 at 12:30 UTC)

I am sitting here this evening with the forcast showing 5 degrees for a low tonight and a wind chill of -10 degrees possible tomorrow. My flock of chickens are in their coop area of the barn. I have a good 6-9 inches of straw on the flooring and a good amount of straw in each nesting box. I have applied vaseline to the wattles and crown of my rooster. the coop area has two 250 watt heat lamps. Is there anything else I should be doing for my girls. I don't want any frostbite. As a novice chicken farmer does anyone have any advice or comment on how I am doing? Thank You Bette
