Best way to promote poultry?    (Posted Mon, May 20 '13 at 10:07 UTC)

We are a local Portland, Joel Salatin style chicken raising business and looking for ways to get our name to the public but we're having a very hard time since we are only able to do on farm sales. Does anyone know of a good resource for advertising? Please reply with links if possible!
Thank you for the help!

this site (Local harvest), Facebook is a great advertising vehicle, Twitter can be excellent, the local papers (bith through news releases and simple classified ads) Craig's list, hanging fliers, having a good brochure that you can leave in as many places as you can think of. Develop a good email list and send out informative emails every week or two telling your farm story.

Just know marketing should be taking about as much time as raising the food and if you are not putting half your time into marketing than you will not market very successfully.

We are in the same boat in a way, we have 24 hens and I'm afraid I won't be able to meet the demand if it spreads quickly and then resulting in a bad image. Any ideas on what would be a reasonable amount to add to the flock this year with out going overboard and getting stuck with too many eggs? Thanks Steve

I'm gonna increase my flock from 17 to around 50 to 60 this season. This should get us 23 to 25 dozen eggs per week.
