Owl's Nest Plantation was established in 1992 and is located in a rural setting, 50 miles west of Charleston, South Carolina. We grow a variety of vegetables, fruits and specialty cut flowers on nineteen (19) acres using sustainable and organic farming methods. We sell at the Charleston Farmers Market, ranked third in the nation, and other Farmers Markets in the area, restaurants and wholesale. We are in Western Berkeley County near Lake Marion.

Job Description:
Owl?s Nest Plantation is looking for (2) two Apprentices for our Certified Naturally Grown Farm for the 2013 Season. Apprenticeships provide an introduction to farming and all aspects of Farm Life. Apprentices will learn Organic Field Management, Soil Fertility and Cover Crop Systems, Crop Planning and Production, Livestock Management, Rotational Grazing, Integrating Crop and Livestock Systems, IPM Systems, Insect and Disease Identification and Control, Logistics, Marketing and Sales, Business Management and Personnel Management. USDA Rules and Regulations, National Organic Standards, USDA NRCS Grants and Programs and GAP System Documentation and Implementation. Greenhouse / High Tunnel Operations and Maintenance, Irrigation Design and Systems, and Tractor Operation and Maintenance. Also Landscape Maintenance, Carpentry, Plumbing, Welding, Horse care, Chicken raising for both meat and eggs, Harvesting, Grading, Washing and Packaging. Farmers Market Sales and Interacting with Farmers Market Customers. Apprentices will be involved in all aspects of farm life and will be provided housing on the Farm.
The period of time Apprentices are needed for is from early (Spring) March through November

Qualifications:
We are looking for people ready to work in a dynamic environment with open minds and a positive outlook to join us. Applicants must be able to work in all types of weather and in physically demanding conditions. A good sense of humor is always appreciated along with a good work ethic. Experience is valued, but not necessary, just a willingness to learn and participate. Minimum Length of Stay: 6 months

Please take note of the requirements for application: A working farm visit is required before final acceptance, 7 days for Apprenticeships.
Compensation:
In addition to Room and Board a stipend is available based on length of Apprenticeship and Experience. Completion of 9 month program qualifies Apprentice for seasonal bonus and participation in one regional Conference.

The Farm is a Non-Smoking and Drug Free environment.
