Position Summary
A pioneer in sustainable agriculture since the 1960s, Wolfe?s Neck Farm (WNF) is a Freeport-based nonprofit agricultural campus close to the greater Portland metro area, set on 626-acres of incredible beauty, consisting of a unique mix of ecological systems: forest, marsh, pasture lands and four miles of coastline. Our programs focus on connecting people all ages with sustainable agriculture. Thousands of people are attracted annually to the farm for programs and events where they learn about sustainable farming; gain a greater understanding of where their food comes from, and how they can be more active participants in the food system. Integral to the Wolfe?s Neck Farm experience is interaction with our diverse array of pasture-raised animals.
Wolfe?s Neck Farm believes strongly in the power of experiential education, and uses our special campus to bring people of all ages to the farm for immersive and powerful hands-on learning experiences.
The Teen Ag Crew Coordinator will oversee the development, management and execution of the third year of the Wolfe?s Neck Farm Teen Ag Program. This innovative, community serving agriculture production and skill-building program has two primary objectives:
1) To provide a meaningful sustainable agriculture immersion program and job skills for a group of 4-6 teenagers in every aspect of a sustainable farming operation, including business planning, field skills, harvesting, livestock management and developing customer and consumer relationships and;
2) To provide area residents in need with access to healthy, locally-grown produce by donating a significant portion of the yield to area food pantries.
The Teen Ag Coordinator will work directly with other key Education and Farm staff to ensure the effective management and integration of the Teen Ag Program into Wolfe?s Neck Farm?s programs and operations. This is a full-time seasonal position with expected dates of employment from April-October.
Position Responsibilities:
? Recruit, hire, train and lead a group of teens through the Teen Ag program, ensuring a safe, meaningful, enriching, empowering and enjoyable experience
? Develop and implement a diverse vegetable production plan for two acres with the help of the program participants and other volunteer groups
? Prepare and conduct trainings for Teens in conjunction with WNF?s Agriculture Staff and outside experts
? Work to coordinate harvest and delivery of produce to three primary markets: our local participating food pantries and other contracted accounts, an onsite farm stand and a 20 share CSA program
? Provide an atmosphere for developing good morale, learning, fun, and well-being among the teens and involved community members
? Help throughout the growing season with program documentation, evaluation, and recommendations for the following season
? Address other responsibilities required to successfully implement a safe and successful program
Selection Criteria:
? Experience developing and implementing a diversified vegetable production plan
? Experience growing and providing for several market outlets
? Demonstrated success supervising teen-aged workers
? Demonstrated ability to manage partnerships and collaborate with community organizations (ie; Youth Building Alternatives, Freeport Community Services, others)
? A strong interest in the food system, sustainable agriculture, and the natural environment.
? A strong interest in the education field and to inspiring future generations
? Desire to be part of a dynamic, entrepreneurial work environment and a growing non-profit organization
? Proven organizational skills (experience with non-profit organizations and or in educational organizations is desired, but not required)
? Strong interpersonal skills and public communication abilities, including solid writing and computer skills
? Strong organizational abilities, time management skills and ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects.
? Energetic, dynamic and engaging personality
? Ability to work well independently, as a member of a high functioning team and developing effective working relationships with people from a variety of backgrounds
? Ability to be flexible to the changing needs of a vibrant and growing, but small, entrepreneurial organization, and to work well under pressure
? Must be able to work a variable work schedule, which includes some work on weekends
? Current CPR and First Aid certifications

Compensation
The Teen Ag Coordinator is a full-time seasonal position with a competitive hourly wage. Use of agricultural equipment and production space for personal use (approx ? acre) is available to Teen Ag Coordinator.
