Heifer International is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to end hunger and poverty while caring for the earth. We currently have positions open at Heifer Farm in Rutland, MA which is a working farm and educational center.
Volunteers must be 18 years of age. Volunteers receive 2-days off per week as well as additional vacation days, a $400/month stipend, housing, access to farm vehicles and a discount in our fair-trade gift shop.
We currently have openings beginning August 20, 2014 in our Education, Guest Operations, Livestock, Farmer Chef, Farm Hand and Garden departments.
Education Volunteers lead tours, education activities & programs with mostly youth participants; Assist with daily livestock chores and periodically in the Visitor Center.
Guest Operations Volunteers answer phones, assist with reservations, gift shop sales, community outreach, light housekeeping and data entry. Also assist with daily livestock chores and field trips.
Livestock Volunteers oversee daily livestock feeding, conduct animal well-being checks, assist with fencing repairs, purchase feed & supplies; periodically lead education programs.
Farmer Chef Volunteers assist part-time with meal preparation for program participants and part-time with gardening; periodically lead education programs.
Farm Hand Volunteers assist in all farm work associated with maintenance, construction, livestock, garden and janitorial; periodically lead education programs.
Garden Volunteers assist with all aspects of gardening & crop production; Assist facilitating large groups of garden workers; periodically lead education programs.
Schedule: 40-50 hours a week including some evenings, weekends and holidays depending on scheduled programming.
