Kidding and buck    (Posted Sun, Mar 15 '09 at 01:27 UTC)

Hi there -
Has anyone left their buck in with their does that are about to kid. So far I haven't separated them. Our buck is about a year and is the sire to the kids. Also, what about chickens? Will chickens peck at the babies?

I did, and ended up with the doe kidding again about 163 days later... meaning, she was bred again when the new kids were only 10 days old.

I won't do that again... :-)

Unbelievable! Were the kids nursing? I thought maybe that would keep her from going into heat again. OK - we'll get them separated.

Thanks!

I've never left a buck with my does, but we have chickens running around everywhere, and they leave kids alone.
