large farming family seeking lease option in the southeast    (Posted Wed, Aug 28 '13 at 09:53 UTC)

We are a family of 8 currently living in Costa Rica. My husband and I are ready to return to the US with our 6 children, experiences, and knowledge in organic farming. We are looking for a lease option farm to turn a small profit on and maintain the lifestyle Costa Rica has enabled us to enjoy for the last 5 years. A turnkey is ideal, but not necessary.

Hello! We have a farm in just over the Georgia line in Alabama. We are finishing a 5-bedroom, 3.5 bath house that we plan to lease. In addition, we have a two bedroom, two bath guest house that might be available. We have around 16 raised beds on which we have only used organic techniques. In addition, we have 6 acres on which we have grown corn one year but mostly have been planting cover crops to improve the soil.
Our orchard includes peach, apple, pear and pecan trees and blueberry and fig bushes as well muscadines and concord grapes, blackberries and raspberries. We have around 50 chickens, 30 guineas, 10 rabbits, 15 goats, 10 cows, 4 pigs and 6 dogs. We would love to have a family interested in farming. Please tell me some more about yourselves. You can email me at: .

I think we have narrowed our search to the upstate of south carolina. It is out of hurricane and tornado areas, and offers us the sub-tropical climate we love along with mild winters. Georgia and Alabama don't really leave us with much to find for work outside the home. Most small organic farmers also carry income from outside work to maintain. With 6 children we would definitely need a second job.
