Introduction to Organic Vegetable Production
Dates: April 10, May 8, May 22, June 12,  July 10, and August 14
Time: 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Location: Lehigh County Agricultural Center (a.m.), Alternate Location (p.m.)

Join us for Introduction to Organic Vegetable Production, a course for people planning to make the leap from vegetable gardening to production for profit and beginning organic vegetable producers who are ready to refine their techniques in order to optimize their production and profit. Penn State Cooperative Extension is offering this course the second Saturday of the month from April to August in the Allentown / Center Valley, PA area. The objective of this course is to introduce aspiring and new vegetable producers to diverse production strategies and provide a framework for effective farm production planning.
 
Participants can expect: presentations by Penn State Extension Educators and experienced farmers, film presentation of weed control and other techniques, interactive discussions, afternoon trips to the Lehigh County Agricultural Incubator and local farms, hands-on experience trying new techniques, tools appropriate for both small and large farms, and more.

Six sessions will cover Seeding and Greenhouse Management April 10, Soil Health and Preparation May 8, Direct Seeding and Transplanting May 22, Disease Management June 12, Ecological Weed Management July 10, and Insect Management August 14.
 
Location: ALL MORNING SESSIONS START AT THE LEHIGH COUNTY AGRICULTURAL CENTER. IN THE AFTERNOON WE WILL CARPOOL TO THE SEED FARM AND OTHER AREA FARMS FOR HANDS-ON EXERCISES. Participants may attend individual sessions or sign up for the whole course.
