Tips Before Buying A Beekeeper Hat    (Posted Sat, Feb 5 '11 at 07:37 UTC)

1. Prior to purchasing a beekeeper hat, make sure that it gives you adequate ventilation when worn.

2. Make sure that the beekeeper hat's veil protects your entire face. You don't want any open spaces from which bees could enter.

3. Never consider dark-colored beekeeper hats. Bees feel threatened by dark colors because their natural predators (like bears and skunks) have dark colors. Choose only among beekeeping hats which come in light colors.

4. Take a good sniff of the beekeeper hat that you're planning to buy. If it has a strong smell to it (because of the material used to manufacture it), take it out of your options. Bees don't like strong smells and they might show aggression towards you if you wear a beekeeper hat that has a stench to it.
