Owl's Nest Plantation was established in 1992 and is located in a rural setting, 50 miles west of Charleston, South Carolina. We grow a variety of vegetables, fruits and specialty cut flowers on nineteen (19) acres using sustainable and organic farming methods. We sell at the Charleston Farmers Market, ranked third in the nation, and other Farmers Markets in the area, restaurants and wholesale. We are in Western Berkeley County near Lake Marion.

Job Description: Owl?s Nest Plantation is looking for several Interns for our Certified Naturally Grown Farm for the 2013 Season. Internships provide an introduction to farming and all aspects of our operation. Interns will be primarily focused on organic vegetable production. Learning opportunities include, soil and bed preparation, planting and transplanting, manual weeding and cultivation, insect and disease control, greenhouse / high tunnel operations and irrigation. Operation and maintenance of tractors, small tools and implements. Also landscape maintenance, carpentry, plumbing, welding, horse care, chicken raising for both meat and eggs, harvesting, grading, washing and packaging. Farmer?s Market Sales and interacting with Farmer?s Market Customers.

The period of time Interns are needed for is from early (Spring) March through May; (Summer) May through August and (Fall) August through November

Interns will spend 2 to 3 days a week at the farm and will assist at various Farmer?s Markets in the Charleston Metro area 2 to 3 days a week.

Qualifications:
We are looking for people ready to work in a dynamic environment with open minds and a positive outlook to join us. Applicants must be able to work in all types of weather and in physically demanding conditions. A good sense of humor is always appreciated along with a good work ethic. Experience is valued, but not necessary, just a willingness to learn and participate.

Minimum Length of Stay: 90 days

Please take note of the requirements for application: A working farm visit is required before final acceptance, 3 days for Internships.

Compensation: A stipend is available based on length of internship, experience, number of days a week working on the Farm.

The Farm is a Non-Smoking and Drug Free environment.
