empress tree    (Posted Tue, Jan 15 '08 at 02:12 CST)

Could any body please tell me if the seeds that I ordered from local harvest, (seeds come from catapla seed company) if this tree will become invasive, I read that a farm has planted thousands of this tree and only three seeds have grown on there own, if that is true, I have nothing to worry about

It is my understanding that in some parts of the US that they are considered invasive and are prohibited from importation. While the seeds are tiny there is an extraordinary number of them. Only a very small percentage grow. The problem, as I see it is that Paulownia trees are very difficult to eradicate once established. You can cut them down and they will sprout new trees which will be 8 feet tall the following year. Coppiceing them is very popular in certain circles to get immense tropical-like leaves. Personally, I love them but not everyone does. I'd check with government authorities to determine if they are outlawed in your state then use your best judgment thereafter. Best of luck
