Fossil Creek Farm and Old School Handwovens are a small family farm and weaving mill in Norwich, N.Y.
Raising a flock of 20 registered Finnish Landrace Sheep, we produce our own wool which is mill spun near by, and then handwoven into our line of baby blankets and throw blankets.
We believe in sustainability and recently have begun a move toward creating a Fiber Shed, clothing made entirely from raw materials and skilled artisans within a 50 mile radius of our farm.
In so doing we put a face to the clothing, helping people to connect back to the origins of their garment, and supporting our local producers, artisans and economy.
We do not coat our sheep. We graze rotationally during the spring, summer and fall, allowing the land to recuperate in a timely manner, keeping the soil and nutrients in balance.
In our weaving mill we use rescued and restored 18th and 19th century weaving looms and techniques to produce heirloom quality textiles while preserving a part of New York textile history to pass on to future generations.
We believe that to know where we are going, we need to have a deep knowledge of an appreciation of where we've come from. For us this includes an agricultural shepherding heritage as well as a Scottish weaving heritage.
