Goodwives Produce at Hummingbird Farm

Goodwives Produce is owned and operated by a mother-daughter team who believe in providing great food at reasonable prices. After bumper crops of produce, the two women began selling last year at a farm stand and a nearby farmer's market. This year, they are selling exclusively at the farm. Because sustainablity and reliability is important to the two women, most of the vegetables Goodwives Produce raises and sells is from heirloom stock, and all of it is from organic non-GMO seed. Both women work the gardens, raising seedlings, and planting the garden plots by hand. The work is labor intensive and the hours are long, but they reap the benefits of being outside, getting productive exercise, and raising great food. Because of that, they have an intimate connection with the earth and the food they raise that helps guarantee the highest quality. This year, they are happy to be adding a line of Italian vegetables with seed directly from Italy. While not all of the seed is organic, a good proportion of it is, and because it is from Europe, there is no worry about GMO. The selections include spinach, kale, salad greens, paste tomatoes, beets, turnip and braising greens. Of course, they couldn't do it on their own, and their husbands as well as other family members help with everything from tilling to washing and packaging produce. Produce includes dandelions, fiddle heads, tomatoes, root crops, greens, squash, corn, pumpkins, new potatoes, garlic, onions, and some more exotic produce including radicchio, escarole, endive, and leeks. Fresh herbs, including several mint varieties(chocolate among them), are also available, as are a collection of time-tested recipes and tips for using the produce from the farm. Goodwives Produce is committed to keeping prices reasonable as a way to make local food more accessible throughout Aroostook County, and offer a senior discount.
