Perfect grazing hog for small homestead. Docile and sweet, but chatty and beg for scratches and treats. Great natural mothers too. Will gain weight on 100% grass diet, but will eat anything...garden scraps, orchard windfall, hay, grain of course, kitchen leavings. Are listed on the Slow Foods Arc of Taste site as a gourmet meat...chefs rave about their marbled flavorful meat and fat. We use the lard for cooking and soap making. Will stay in the pasture with minimal fencing.
We only have high tinsel strands, but they can be trained quickly to respect electric fencing, as well as electric netting. Very hairy, so winters are not a problem as long as they have some shelter to sleep in. Piglet range from $100 for solid blacks to $400 for rare colors and spots. They also make very personable pets and can be quickly trained to a litter box.
We are a small family farm in Licking County Ohio. We raise grass fed meats and eggs, as well as limited produce in season.
