Workshop: Making & Canning Summer Jam
If you've thought about learning to can at home, fruit jam is the perfect place to start. Whether for your own pantry or a thoughtful and unique gift, jam is a simple and delicious way to preserve the flavors of the season. Once you have learned the basic recipe and preserving process, you'll be able to experiment with creative and tasty combinations of your own to complement everything from roasted meats and flavorful appetizers to good old peanut butter sandwiches.
This hands-on workshop will cover all the basics of both traditional jam-making and hot water bath canning in the home kitchen. Fruits used will vary by session, depending on what is in season. Participants will take home a jar of jam, along with a handout that includes a basic recipe, overview of the canning process and resources for jars, pectin and cookbooks.
Cooking and preserving workshops are held in our farmhouse kitchen. Participants should bring a favorite apron, wear comfortable, closed-toed shoes and cover or tie-back longer hair.
