An avid gardener and canner - I am interested in helping U-pick farmers, farmers' markets and restaurants/bed and breakfasts which serve locally- produced harvest and agriculture promote themselves to the tourism industry.
I am a freelance tourism marketing specialist who has extensive background in creating thematic tourism driving trails (not walking trails) in the Carolinas. I research, develop and write brochures and Web sites specific to the tourism industry - including agritourism.
Trails connect similar places together, such as a U-pick it farm, a local restaurant that uses local produce and a farming event. The concept of connecting the dots together provides a valuable resource to tour planners, travel writers and the general traveling public.
I typically work with organizations and businesses who have small promotional budgets.
The NC Arts Council created a site last year, http://www.homegrownhandmade.com, featuring a multitude of North Carolina farms, artisians, craftsmen, etc. I worked in 30 of the project's 77 counties. Now, I'm developing more trails in South Carolina in conjunction with Clemson University Extension. That Web site is in the works.
I am a member of the North Carolina Agritourism Networking Association.
