Grey Horse Farm

This past year we raised and sold pasture raised broiler chickens to customers with overall great feedback, and already have pre-orders into the upcoming season. However, we became aware that everyone did not know how to prepare fresh chicken, so this year we will be providing our customers with a handout containing suggestions on how to prepare chicken that is not processed commercially, and does not have a high fat content. All of our broilers are under 9 weeks old, average 5.5 lbs, and are hormone and antibiotic free. We will have these available for pickup beginning in mid-July through November.

We also had a very successful year raising meat hogs, who were raised outdoors in portable housing which was moved from pasture to pasture. They dined on natural grains, vegetables from our gardens (no pesticides), and received plenty of exercise. Our clients purchased half and whole hogs, which were sent up to a custom butcher who did a wonderful job in preparing the cuts for the customer. All of our customers brought select cuts to Green Mountain Smokehouse in Windsor, VT, and reported back very satisfied. Our hogs were Berkshire, Poland China and Landrace crosses, and produced very flavorful and lean meat. This year we will be a little larger and will be producing Berkshire Yorkshire crosses for sale by the half or whole hog.

Of course we are still producing eggs, this year from our Barred Rock and Buff Orpington hens, who are, weather permitting, getting out during all seasons to roam about the farm during the day.

Seasonal vegetables will be available starting in the spring, but our main focus will be to produce hormone and antibiotic free pork and chicken. Please feel free to call anytime. Meath prices will be posted over the next month and we will be taking deposits for hogs (half, whole, or roaster) and chickens that we have available for the upcoming season. Keep in mind that we will also sell piglets if you would like to raise them yourself. Have a Happy Easter!
