Ground cherries are actually a relative to the tomato plant, and are covered with a thin paper-like shell. In late summer when ripe they reveal a yellowish sweet pineapple tasting fruit. They are used in pies, jams and jellies and salads. They are excellent dipped in chocolate, and eaten straight off the vine!
They grow easily in most soils and prefer sull sun. Extra water should be given when fruit is forming.
