Training for Future and Existing Farmers

?Growing Growers? is a new program in Kansas City to train farmers in local food production. Our goal is to increase the number and effectiveness of small farms that grow food organically and/or sustainably in the Kansas City Metro Area.

We want to see more and more effective:

Market Farms

Wholesale Vegetable and Fruit Farms

Farms offering Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) programs

?You Pick? operations

Farm Stand operations

We want to help you grow food for Kansas City!

We offer: Apprenticeships on Local Farms - for individuals who think they want to go into farming as a way of life.

Each year we?ll place 6-8 apprentices on area farms where they?ll get hands-on experience, direct training from the farmer, plus a regular schedule of more formalized training on topics from Understanding and Working with Midwestern Soils to Farm Production Planning.

Workshops for Current Farmers: Throughout the year we?ll organize workshops, field days, and educational opportunities for farmers who are interested in improving specific aspects of their operation. For example, we?ll offer a workshop in mechanization for farmers considering doing less by hand and more by machinery.
