The Gustavus Farmer's Market was formed in 2006. It is an outdoor market for locally produced items including produce, eggs, jams and jellies, crafts, artwork, clothing items, and food vendors. Gustavus has around 400 year round residents and is considered the "Gateway to Glacier Bay" as it is nine miles from Glacier Bay National Park. The market is open on Saturdays from 9 to 1 from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend. There are special events such as musicians, demonstrations, livestock, and carnival-type shows. The City of Gustavus allows the market to be held in the City Park at no cost to participants. Some shelter is provided although not guaranteed.

The Saturday market is a gathering place for local residents. They shop, catch up with the news, and visit. The "locals" are very proud of their community and are willing to share it with tourists.
