The Heikes families have been farmers and livestock feeders in the Siouxland area since the 1800's. The Heikes Family Farm, located on the northeast corner of Vermillion, across from Masaba, has been in the family since 1946. The farm sits on rich, nutrient-dense soil, the soul of the farm. We want to continue the legacy and introduce our new Community Supported Agriculture to our friends and neighbors.
After 35 years as a Production Agronomist, Sam Heikes and family moved back home to the Heikes family farm in the spring of 2010 to start the "Heikes Family Farm Market". Sam's Agriculture degree is from South Dakota State University with an agronomy major and an animal science minor. Our mission statement is: "To produce healthy, fresh, organically-grown produce that really tastes good!" We support the "Buy Fresh Buy Local" marketing concept and believe that "Community Supported Agriculture" is one way to build the family business based on our consumers needs and tastes.
The CSA consumer shareholder will receive a weekly distribution full of fresh produce for thirty two weeks. A share is good one year from the date of purchase. All members share in the bounty of production under favorable conditions and also share in the risks in less favorable seasons. CSA brings people together around the heart of their fresh produce supply, sharing in the local farm food production experience.
