Heikes Farm

Heikes Farm has been in the family for 3 generations. We are attempting to keep the tradition of the diversified, sustainable family farm alive for our children, and theirs. We currently run 15 Finn-cross ewes, 20 beefaloe (all grassfed), a few pigs (roasters and freezer), horses for recreation (and we hope for light hay and cultivation work soon), as well as an acre of pesticide-free blueberries. Our free-range hens produce gorgeous (and tasty, highly nutritious) brown and blue-green eggs. We grow a diverse garden that meets most of our food needs throughout the year, and surplus is sold as available. Of course, we utilize natural livestock by-product fertilizer (manure) and organic pest control. The 2008 growing season saw great success with heirloom tomatoes, and we expect to continue producing plenty of these for ourselves and others, along with our usual varied crops of vegetables and herbs. We also grew our own popcorn for the first time in 2008, and are finding all 4 varieties to be vastly superior to what is grown for large-scale commercial production! I hope to be able to offer some for sale in 2009! Our sheep produce lovely fleeces for handspinning and fibrecraft, and I typicaly have a limited amount of roving and a few fleeces available, to buy as fleece or I can have them custom processed to your liking. I hope to experiment with natural dyes soon, as well. We offer spring, Easter and summer lambs, again live or processed and frozen to your specification. Pigs and beefaloe are also usually available. We raise hay as a cash crop, and it is available in small square or large round bales; early reservations are necessary, as we typically sell out. A small amount of conventionally raised corn and soybeans round out our farm's production. 2008 saw us branch into seed corn foundation stock, as it is a good fit with our small fields. We enjoy our lifestyle; although we work hard, we spend a lot of time together as a family in the great outdoors. We enjoy sharing it with others through our quality products. If you would care to contact us, please respect our request for no Sunday calls, as this day is reserved for worship, family and rest.
