Hillbilly Tomatoes are very large (most average at least one pound) very juicy bi colored (yellow & pink) tomatoes. They have a good taste, not as strong and acidic as red tomatoes. These are a good choice for folks who cannot tolerate strong tomatoes. The large size also makes for a nice slicer, and the colors are really pretty served on a plate for supper.
These are heirloom tomatoes, from most accounts they originated in the mountains of West Virginia, thus the name "Hillbilly".
These are open pollinated, which means you can save your own seed and grow plants that are true to the parent. Hillbilly tomatoes are also indeterminate, meaning that they do not ripen all at once, but rather over a period of several weeks.
Start seed inside 6 weeks before your last frost date. Transplant into the garden after all danger of frost has past
These seed were obtained from plants Peacefully HomeGrown in NC Zone 7b.
One Packet = minimum of 30 fresh for 2014 SAVE YOUR OWN SEED Allow the biggest, nicest tomato from the healthiest vine fully ripen on the vine. Pick the fruit, cut one end off and squeeze the "gel" and seeds into a bowl. Allow to ferment until a "skim" forms (you may want to perform this step outdoors!); rinse off and allow the seeds to dry in a single layer (paper plates work really well for this). Store dried seed in a cool, dry place. Tomato seed stored properly can remain viable for 5 or more years.
NO pesticides, herbicides or unnatural chemical fertilizers have been used in the production of any product offered in my online store here at LocalHarvest.org
My seeds are harvested and cleaned by hand, and are fresh for the season specified. I never sell old seed. As a result of hand cleaning, there may be some small amount of natural material (chafe) included with your seeds, especially the tiny ones. Just plant it with your seeds!
All seeds & plants are produced using natural methods.
