Houde Family Farm is run by a family of eleven. We are a certified organic dairy farm that also raises organic veal ( not certified ) , Heritage breed pigs, poultry and lambs. The vealers are bull calves from our dairy herd, raised outside on pasture, organic cows milk, and organic grain. The Heritage breed pigs are raised on natural grain and waste organic milk in open airy pens. The steers are bull calves from our dairy herd that we sell to a small family farm that raises them and sells them back when they are ready for market. They are over 95% grassfed and given very little natural grain (for flavor and minerals). The poultry is free range and fed natural grain. The lambs are pastured all summer and given limited amounts of natural grain. The vealers and steers give us a way to use a part of our dairy operation that was wasted before. Our meats are the best tasting we have ever eaten and we are not the only people who think so.

All the work is done by David, Tina, and our children. Tina raises the lambs and poultry while David and Matthew work the dairy . Matthew feeds the pigs while Elizabeth, Jacob, and John feed the calves and vealers. Otherwise everyone pitches in were needed. We try to be self sufficient doing as much of our maintenance and vet work as we can. Our animals are very healthy because of the attention and open spaces. We do not use any growth hormones or antibiotics because we do not need them.

We are an organic dairy because we did not like the "normal" practices of conventional farming. David has been farming since 1976 and wants to farm closer to the way it used be; closer to nature. We do not certify any of the meats because of the extensive paperwork required. We really enjoy doing what we do and doing it as a family is a bonus!
