Hurricane Flats Farm

Hurricane Flats is a 37 acre certified organic farm on the banks of the White River in South Royalton Vermont. The name is borrowed from town history and stems from persistent spring winds that whip through the valley. We are in our eleveth year of growing over 50 different types of vegetables on the rich river bottom land. In addition to the produce operation - our canteloupes are our pride and joy - we also raise some beef and sell hay.

We (Tom "Geo" Honigford and Sharon O'Connor) run the farm with huge assistance from our daughters Emma and Cora. Using crop rotation, compost, and cover crops we have brought life back into the previously sterile soil. We constantly marvel at the extent of the soil rejuvenation brought about by using organic farming practices. We sell vegetables every Saturday from May to October at the Norwich farmers' market located on Route 5 in Norwich, Vermont. We also sell sweet corn, pumpkins, our famous cantaloupe and watermelon and other vegetables at our farm stand. Produce is available at the farm in bulk quantities.
