After reading Mr. Joel Salatin's books, we just had to diversify the angus farm. We will work on eggs, broilers, turkey, and hampshire pigs for 2011. Last year was a very interesting battle with the varmits! The landscape of the farm is begging for more of the poultry fertilizer; and strip grazing the cattle to increase grass production is top on the list. There is a creek running through the rolling ground, making the possibility to raise fish or prawn in the future. Animals really do make farming FUN!
We have a new Angus bull featuring growth, marbling and ribeye in the top 10% of the breed. His calves will be anxiously expected in the fall of 2011. Our neighbor to the southeast is offering their direct smoking of raw meats, and indirect smoking of pre-cooked meats. The aroma will be worth the work! A nearby butcher can be booked two months ahead for pork orders.
