This pelt is from a black badgerfaces patterned Icelandic lamb. It is gray with some brownish shading on the rear side and black points around the edges. The wool is long and soft.
The sheep are raised on our small farm, fed mostly grass all summer and live outside with their mothers.
Icelandic lamb pelts are very attractive and can be used as throws or even decorative rugs.
It has very few defects or holes, although there is a pattern of small holes in the skin made by the tanner. It was tanned by Buck's County Fur in Pennsylvania and is made to be washable, but can be dry cleaned if desired. Water washing per the instructions from Bucks county tends to make the skin hard and it takes time to get the skin back to it's supple texture.
It's measurements are 31 inches down the midline and 22 accross the middle.
We raise our animals on a small family farm. The sheep have access to pasture most of the time and are only fed grain and hay in extreme weather. We also raise turkeys and chickens who are outside on pasture in the summer/fall. We breed our own heritage turkeys and let them raise thier own babies when possible. We strive to keep our animals healthy and happy with as much freedom as possible while keeping them safe.
