Our land is 3 miles east of Orland on Hwy 32 along Stoney Creek which flows from Black Butte Dam. The soil is Columbian loam which Chuck's grandfather worked with a team of 32 mules back in the mid 1800's. When Chuck was a boy this parcel, and the neighboring land where his grandparents lived, was all planted in walnuts with peaches in between. So the Jasper's have been growing peaches for about 150 years in the same area! Wow! I love the history of this place. We have Blenheim apricots beginning around the 7th or 15th of June and Tilton follow a week or so later., lasting about 3 weeks. We have about ten, or more, varieties of peaches that come off consecutively (more or less)beginning in early June. These include: Desert Gold, Springcrest, Red Haven, Kim Elberta, Gleason Elberta, Faye Elberta, O'Henry, Babcok, Halloween and numerous odd sorts in a family orchard. The Springcrest has been my favorite for years now. We also have some white & yellow meat nectarine, pluots, Santa Rosa and Richfield plums and Asian pears. Late summer we should have Fuji, Golden Delicious and Gala apples. This depends on how hungry the coddling moths are. We gave up spraying any type of control over them because the cost of even the organically certified sprays are too costly. So we take what we get. We don't spray any of our fruit with anything when the fruit is on the tree. We use copper sulfate in the winter time for peach-leaf curl. When we can afford it we fertalize with nitrogen.
In the fall we sell Mandarin oranges (three varieties of Satsuma beginning in late Oct.), persimmons ( three varieties- Maru, Fuyu & Hachiia) and pomegranates (dark red & light pink). We love our home and welcome you to come visit our nursery which is open 7 days a week from 8 to 5 or by appointment. We specialize in olive trees, citrus trees, bamboo for landscaping, cannas, old fashioned roses, day lilies, mini roses and other perennials. Chuck & Christina Jasper
