John L Council Farm is a farm where our motto is "you are what you eat" have been passed down to each generation. Using this as our guidelines, we farm using sustainable agricultural methods to preserve and strenghen our soil and enhance the health of our livestock. We do not use chemicals on our crops nor do we give antibiotics or growth hormones to our livestock.
The farm produces vegetable crops and small fruits that are in season year-round. However, cover crops are planted strategically to replace soil nutrients loss during normal growing season. Crops are rotated to minimize nematodes and diseases.
Our livestock consists of: beef cattle, pigs, rabbits guinea hens and chickens. All of our animals have free range in their pastures. Our cattle are grass-fed and are not finished out with corn. Others are fed dietary supplements with natural products such as kelp, minerals and shells for chickens (to harden egg shells). Like our crops, the animals have multiple pastures that they are rotated to help reduce stress on pasture.
Our farm has been approved by the Animal Welfare Institute. In April 2009, John Council was awarded the 2009 Small Farmer of the Year Award from NC A&T University, Greensboro NC. We are a member of NC Choices and NC Cattlemen Association. He has also mentored potential young farmers that were involved with LYFE (Linking Youth to Farming Enterprises), Beginning Farmers Initiative through NC A&T University and FACT through the Robeson County Cooperative Extension Office.

I recently purchased 7 lbs of their sausage links at the Southern Pines Farmers Market and they are great.
I have also bought their produce and it is touch notch.
