LA Farms Team

This is a community-based venture. We have goals of establishing a sustainable CSA-model in order to connect the urban community to healthier and more sustainable local food systems. The program will also generate local jobs for our urban farmers.

Benefits:

You and your family will experience the joys of eating fresh, healthy food, as well as the experience of being connected to a farm.

In addition to a weekly basket, you will receive a seasonal newsletter containing recipes, photos, and stories from the field. Each week brings new food surprises, creating awareness about eating with the seasons. Because we can pick produce varieties purely for their flavor, without concern for shipping, you will be amazed at how good it tastes!

You can also feel good about eating this way; it can be a lot cheaper, and better for the environment. For example, an urban CSA in San Francisco says that "For each family we grow for we are preventing carbon emissions equal to approximately 11,000 lbs of C02 per year, the equivalent of taking one car off the road!"

There are three ways to participate in this program:

Option One, Family Farm:

You pay for a raised bed or beds to be established on some sunny portion of your property (minimum 4 - where there is access to water. For a weekly fee between $25-35, your farmer takes care of all aspects of growing and harvesting the produce. Your farmer presents you with your personal weekly farm basket filled with the bounty of your garden. Your farmer may pool your produce with that of other participants in your neighborhood, and present you with a greater assortment in your personal weekly farm basket. Please contact us for more details and pricing at 310.343.0741.

Option Two, Neighborhood Farm:

If you have at least 200 square feet of full-sun growing space in your yard you can become a CSA-growing site. Neighborhood farmers are an essential part of the success of this CSA model and will receive many benefits for their contribution, including free weekly maintenance. You pay for a raised bed or beds to be established on some sunny portion of your property where there is access to water. Your farmer takes care of all aspects of growing and harvesting the produce. Your farmer presents you with your personal weekly farm basket filled with the bounty of your garden and excess produce will be distributed to other CSA members. Please contact us for more details and pricing at 310.343.0741.

Option Three, Farm Friend (CSA Member):

If you do not have land to use, but would like to receive a share of organic, LA-grown produce each week, you can buy a share in the CSA for a reasonable seasonal cost. Please see the attached pledge form.
