Ladybug Farm serves a diverse organic vegetable selection on the Coastside. Year round, Orlando Zavala, a one man show, distributes CSA boxes, delivers to top rated restaurants, specialty grocers, and, has had a booth at the Coastside Farmer's Market.
Orlando came to America in the early 80's with organic farming experience from his homeland in El Salvador. He landed on his feet running in the organic farming business under others and now leases property that has been approved by the CCOF.
There is always something wonderfully exotic growing organically on his predominately dry-farmed, darwinian, vegetable garden. One might find vegetables from Latin American, such as chayote and apazote, or Japanese varieties such as kabocha squash, or Mediterranean fare such as arugula and romenesco. Although he has a genuin interest in unique global items, his fascination with native edible plants is apparent when you see amaranth and watercress peeking out of places they grow best without assistance. Heirlooms like, but not limited to, the yellow pear tomato are always prevelant.
Ladybug Farm is a certified organic by the CCOF.
