[Introduced in 1988 by SESE from a Thailand lettuce breeding program.] 'Thai 88' lettuce has been selected to produce excellent quality lettuce under conditions of high heat. It resembles 'Oakleaf' lettuce, but is superior in several ways: the plant is larger, the leaves more upright, and the texture more tender. It is moderately slow to bolt, and is a "cut-and-come-again" variety. The sweet, crisp, compact heads have withstood cold temperatures as low as 20 deg. F without injury.
