LongHouse Farm

The idea of starting the farm began in 2001 when we realized that to live better, we needed to eat better...and that meant organic. We read Eliot Coleman's book, The New Organic Grower, and became enlightened to the philosophy of bio-regional farming and intrigued with starting a market farm here in Indiana. We found our thirteen acres in May 2003 and, in 2004, we decided it was time to reclaim the soil. We planted red clover to begin to turn the soil back to its organic state. We now have 3 greenhouses and have added our first caterpillar tunnel to more closely control our starts as well as extend our growing season. We continue to rotate different green manures on the land along with planting as many acres as we need to provide fresh, organic vegetables and herbs to our CSA members. Who says a couple of old gals can't farm! We love what we're doing!
